Orange tip on spark plug?
Still troubleshooting on the old wagon and pulled the spark plugs today, it seems like the tips on the plugs are slightly orange? What could this mean? Would this cause any sort of running issues?
was the gap appropriate? was their signs of heavy erosion on either the center post, or the underside of the ground electrode? other than the top, was the accumulated crust on the plug end sort of powder grey, or was it black or white?
I couldn't necessarily match what I found with anything on the chart, so I decided to take a picture. I believe they are relatively new so im not sure what the heck it could be...I mean its a cheap replacement I just am trying to figure out if there is an underlying problem that I need to fix.
platinums are not really the best plug for these cars, the old school Bosch Super+ copper plugs are better
the gap looks kind of large on those, I don't even see the center electrode tip ?

oh my god how the hell did i not notice that??? I was checking out the different plugs, how do i determine the right size? I think they are the WR7DC+ plugs, is that correct? what should they be gapped to?
And completely unrelated but when I unplug the MAS and start the car it will idle fine but as soon as i press the gas it dies. Is that to be expected or should i be able to run around the block with it unplugged? Just poking through other threads and came up with that question. Sorry, I know its completely off topic.
with the MAF unplugged, its running in limp home mode trying to guess how much gas to inject, it won't run very well at all, especially cold.
gap should be 0.028"-0.032" or 0.7-0.8mm for all 4 cyl 240/740/940...

Thanks Pierce! I could only find the plugs with the round caps on the end opposite the electrode tip. Are those round ends removable so that they are the same as the ones in the car with the threaded ends?
the standard volvo plugs have the caps on the ends, and the 'correct' style spark plug wires fit these. aftermarket wires often require the caps to be unscrewed so they clip onto the threads. I discovered this when I got my 740T, it had cheap aftermarket wires, and no caps... so when I replaced the plugs, I took the caps off, saved them, and ordered the bougicord wire-set then when it arrived, I replaced the caps and put on the bougis.
