thanks

most of the newer volvos are FWD or AWD, so the motor+transmission configuration is *completely* different.
anything since about 2000, the transmission is under computer control by the engine management system, so you'd need to swap in and integrate the complete vehicle system management electronics.
*IF* the seats physically fit (aren't too wide for the floor pan, etc), you can make a seat adapter from a plate of 1/4" or so thick steel thats drilled for the car's seat bolt pattern AND for the seat's pattern, and cutting away excess metal in the middle to save weight.... probably take a milling machine to do a nice job on this. if the S40 seats are motorized, you'll need to hook up suitable power for them, of course. another concern is, are the seats the right height ? the 240 is a fairly upright seating position, the s40 is sportier with a more low profile.

that makes sense I was wondering if I would need the trans and ecu for that too I may stick with the idea of putting in 90-95 4runner front seats. I still think and ill research more that it would be cool to run a twin turbo 4.4v8 ill talk to my ls swap buddies and see if they can make stand alone hardness and go from there

those Yahama designed XC90 4.4 V8's were not turboed, and generated 311 HP or osmething, probably enough to tear up the stock rear end on a 240, and certainly enough to trash the AW70 automatic transmission. At least those XC90s were a longitudinal engine mount, with rear wheel primary drive, optional 4WD.
assuming that engine would physically fit under the hood, you'd at a minimum need to fabricate custom engine mounts, figure out how to squeeze a bigger radiator in there, and squeeze all the engine management stuff, wiring harness and stuff from the XC90 into the 240. you'll need a custom exhaust system(hopefully the stock 4.4 exhaust manifolds fit). if you want to mate the XC90 engine to the AW70 transmission, that puts constraints on where the engine can be mounted, and undoubtably requires a bell housing adapter. probably a custom flexplate on the 4.4 to adapt it to the AW70 torque converter. If you use the XC90 RWD transmission, then a custom transmission mount, a new drive shaft will undoubtably be required.
I have no idea how much integration there is between the ECM for the 4.4 and the XC90's transmission, but most cars of that era, including many Fords, the engine management computer also runs the transmission, and freaks out if its not there.
