Default Overriding the Neutral Safety/Start Inhibitor Switch - 1992 240 Automatic

I have a 92 240 that was in an accident a few months ago. The engine still runs fine and we were able to pull everything on the front end out, but ever since the accident it has had troubles starting.

At first we could circumvent this issue by pushing on the white triangular part of the neutral safety switch in the shifter area, but now even when moving this piece the vehicle refuses to turn over. Is there a way to bypass or override the switch so that the car can start without it having to be in the perfect position?

More than likely the accident has bent the front end of the car causing the transmission to be shifted slightly mis-aligning the linkage. You could try adjusting the shift lever linkage to get the shifter back into proper position for the gears. Before adjusting, check the plastic bushings on the shift linkage. At this age of the car they may be gone unless they've been replaced earlier. When they wear out the linkage gets sloppy causing safety switch mis-alignment.

IMHO, if the chassis is so tweaked that the engine/transmission is misaligned with the shift lever on the hump, its scrap
