Default Paint bumpers?

Ok, so i own a 91 740 turbo. And as we all know the plastic bummpers do fade with time.....from a nice black to a grey. I have used armorall and things of that nature to shine it up a bit, but i would love it if the bumpers would return to there old black state. I was thinking about doing it myself.....any tips etc???? thanks!

I think IPD sells a paint to paint them with.

I think IPD sells a paint to paint them with.
You can also get black bumper paint from an autobody supply store in, aerosol cans. Ask the counterman about preparation also...at the minimum you need a prep solvent for the plastic, ESPECIALLY if you have applied Armor-All. The new paint won't stick to that stuff!

Black bumper paint works well on a properly prepped surface. I used it on another car and it never came off...looked good even after a parking lot "bump" (yes, it's flexible paint) and spilling gasoline on the bumpers a few times.

+++++

But here's another way to get your unpainted bumpers black again... clean them with Scotchbrite pads by 3M. My daughter's Jeep suffers from the same Gray Plastic Syndrome, and Scotchbrite and elbow grease worked great. It took a long time the first time (you actually have to remove the sun-faded layer) but now, a buffing every 3 months or so and the plastic keeps its original color.

Colgate, Griots Garage gas some wonderful stuff for this. It's a bumber dye. It has it's own applicator. Buy their paint Prep though. You can do each bumber in about 10 minutes. Works great on the side molding too.

On my 82' 240, the bumper seems to be more of a rubber than a plastic.
will the IPD paint work for that as well?
thanks!

Colgate, I have a 940 wagon and that Griots Garage bumper dye works great! No masking off and it's permanent. You just need to use their paint prep first. The whole kit costs about $25 including shipping.
