Please help 940 runs rough no power at warm starts
I have a 95 940 with a non turbo engine. When cold the engine starts and runs fine but as it comes up to temp the engine starts to hunt for idle and when you rev it up it kind of coughs. The same thing happens when you start it when the engine is warm. I try to go down the road and I have little to no acceleration . The strange thing is after I pull to the side and rev the engine a few times and drive for a few seconds, I can usually get it to come out of it it and the car drives great from there on out. When this is happening pressing the brake does not effect the running
Ive done my best to check for vacuum leaks and sprayed the IAC out with carb clean but it didn't help.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

OBD-II code reader plugs started in 1996.
LH2.4 (1989-1995) 240/740/940 have an OBD-I system that has a LED and pushbutton under the hood. there's also a little plug wire, you put it into socket 2 for ECU (fuel injection) codes, and socket 6 for ICU (ignition) codes.
see https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/EngineOBDCodes.html for all the details.

OBD2 was mandated in US market cars starting with the 1996 MY, some like Mercedes had it since 1994. Volvo didn't want to do the extra mods so they discontinued selling the 940 in the US after the 1995 MY. The 850s do have the OBD2 ports and they are between the seats in the middle console since 1996, may be earlier. Hard to believe Volvo had an OBD2 compliant 940 for the rest of the world in 1995...
