Default popping the hood

Hello all. I'm new here, just joined in Thanksgiving. I have a couple of questions. First, what's the proper way to clean an air filter? Also, my hood popper handle doesn't work. I yank on it, and it won't pop the hood unless someone is standing at the hood pulling up on it. Is this the way it's supposed to work on a 92 240?

Welcome to the forums! Unless you have a K&N Air Filter, which is cleanable, you should just replace your filter. Shouldn't be but a couple dollars for a new one. The installation takes 2 minutes also. No, the hood should not have to be pulled on to "pop it" from inside the car. Sounds like the spring mechanism that pushes the hood up when you pull the lever is malfunctioning. The first thing you could do is spray some WD40 on the "hook and spring" mechanism under the hood. That will insure that certain parts aren't getting hung up from time. The next step would be to replace the mechanism itself.

you can temperory clean the air filter by using a shop air nozzle or just hit it like a carpet.. to get some of the dust out. Replace it once you have the part.
