Hey all...my cd player from abouyt 5-6 years is going out and I'm looking to replace it with a radio that looks more out of the 80s.

1986 244 DL Radio slot (single din) measuring 7 3/8 in x 2 3/8 in ??
They said the din slot should be 7 in x 2 in but on my meansurements the din slot is about 7 3/8 x 2 3/8....so just a bit bigger than what they are saying. Anyone have more info or experience with the radios on 240 Volvos? Am I measuring the wrong part? Should i be measuring the slot the radio goes in itself and not the third party mount made to house it?
single DIN, which is what that Pioneer must be, is 180 x 50 mm (about 7.09" x 1.97")... thats the size of the opening the body of the radio fits into, the trim bezel visible on the outside is a bit bigger.
Just to be absolutely clear, your car has an adapter in that odd shaped top bay which converts it to DIN. The lower bay isn't din either, but a din adapter was made for it, too. Some dealer installed setups had a equalizer in the bottom and radio on top. We got our 240 new radio deleted, and put a pair of 6.5" in the rear shelf with a Pioneer head unit. It had 6 or 8 head units (first couple were cassette), 2 sets of rear speakers, and gained some nice front door speakers, too, before it died after 500k miles in 30 years, from a moldy wet interior
