when we bought our 1987, the radio was a dealer installed item, there were different models. we passed, and put our own stereo in. you can get an adapter kit from Metra or whatever that will let you fit a standard single DIN radio in that odd size bay.

Hi
I have done some research and have narrowed it done to three models: CR 712, TD 623 and AR 5175Q.
Is there anybody that has a 1990 240 who could check their radio model number to see which is the right one.

Thanks
Shane

There probably were several OEM radios offered. I am no expert on 1990 240 radios but if previous and later years are a guide, that would be the case.

yeah, as I said, the radio was a dealer installed option, they weren't shipped from the factory. ours didn't even have speakers in it when we declined the radio.

I have tracked down and fitted a CR712 . Does anybody know if it is possible to fit a bluetooth module
to the radio . It would require an input with RCA connectors.

Thanks in advance

no guarantees, Volvo randomly changed stuff on 240';s, but this is from TP-31558/1, the 1990 Wiring DIagrams (US)

brown wire (vehicle side) to a grey wire (radio side) - rheostat for dash dimming- DO NOT FCONNECT, INSULATE THE WIRE

grey-white wire (vehicle) to a yellow wire (radio) - dim mode (parking lights are on if hot)

3x3 block connector to volvo radio
pin 1 - green wire - constant power from fuse 8
pin 2 - yellow/black wire - switched power from fuse 1
pin 3 - red wire - power antenna control.
pin 4 - yellow-white wire - left front speaker +
pin 5 - grey-yellow wire - right front speaker +
pin 6 - NC?
pin 7 - white wire - left front speaker -
pin 8 - grey wire - right front speaker -
pin 9 - black wire - ground

seperate connector(s) for rear speakers:
pin 1 - yellow-brown - left rear +
pin 2 - green-yellow - right rear +
pin 3 - green-brown - left rear -
pin 4 - green-grey - right rear -

I would test the speaker wires with a AA or AAA battery, before hooking them up. the speaker should softly pop or crackle when you temp jump it to the battery. don't hold them for long. if you remove the speaker grills, and connect the speaker's + wire to the battery + button, the speakers should all move in the same direction (it doesn't matter if its in or out, it just has to be the same way for all 4 speakers when + to + and - to -)

p.s. I see in the background of that picture, you still have the old style heater valve, with the thermostat.... is your heater kinda binary, on or off, without a lot of range of control on the temp lever? the copper tube thermostat thing in those dies, then they are just on/off, without hardly any control of merely warm.

these guys have a kit using a 1980s dodge truck heater valve, and clever application...
Volvo 240 heater valve instructions 1348252
Volvo 240 heater valve kit replaces 1348252 9131998 $59! Volvo 240 heater valve kit replaces 1348252 9131998 $59 [] - $59.00 : EuroPartsHouse, Bargain parts for European cars!

install that and you'll be able to dial just a little to as much heat as you like.
