Default Rally volvo

Hey everyone! Im new to the volvo community and looking into rallycross/ rally (eventually) I just picked up what i believe is a 84 240...not 100% sure so if somone corrects me that would be awesome! But i was just wondering if anyone had any pointers in which direction to head? Im shooting for Production class maybe G2? like i said thats eventually but i work in the body shop field so i know i will have to do some rust repair before anything happens but its a 5-speed non-turbo i believe so i will probably be looking into the turbo engine upgrade. But if anyone has any pointers just let me know all help is appreciated! Thanks again! Here is a pic of the old girl...shes raring to come back to life!

That pick axe buried in the trunk is good for a few extra ponies. All kidding aside good luck a turbo engine upgrade would be a good idea. JovhV the outside agitator and towery on turbobricks both have rally 242's

I always thought the 16 valve engine in a lightened Volvo would go pretty well non turbo.
Thought about building a hillclimb 740 like that, use a base model 740 GL, strip it out etc...

Regards, Andrew.

Oh, I'll do it! Just waiting patiently for the right, cheap cars/parts to come along.
I've also been looking into Mitsu V6 engine swaps, they are very cheap engines with a great broad torque curve and great peak power.
Regards, Andrew.

He had a little more money in his than i want to put in mine but i know which direction to head in. So hopefully go pick up my brick this weekend and get started on it.

a 16v engine base or turbo engine is a good swap suspention ipd springs and ipd anti-sway bars u can check it out on ipd.com and check out on ebay the rear tail lights u can use the later 240 ones if u cut about an inch will fit and do not worry about the plug it will work p.d on ebay u can find a lot stuff so u can put your 242 on road nicely

http://www.kaplhenke.com/index.php makes some pretty sweet mods for the 240 series. I don't know that I'd use their coilover setup for rally....more of an autocross kind of design I think....but the rest of their adjustable suspension stuff would come in handy.

That looks like some pretty good stuff like you said maybe not alot for rally but some stuff would be nice. The thing im finding out now is the safety stuff, well not all of it just the dang hans device. Jeeze 600 for the cheapest model thats insane! but i gotta have it, im planning on scoping ebay for awhile and if nothing turns up just forking out the cash but oh well, ive been hearing about a tail light problem with volvos whats that all about? is it something to worry about while rallying since i have to have all lights functioning?

the tail light problem stems from crappy connectors to a terrible design for bulb connection. Pull it apart and you'll see what I mean. Most folks with issues just rewire everything to eliminate the the flimsy circuit board and wire connector. Everything is color coded back there....makes it a little easier IMO.

Kaphlenke is sooooo over priced. I would talk with the yoshifab guys and RSI they're more rally and budget oriented.

it's easy to call out overpriced when it's 4130 TIG welded and nickle plated aluminum. In fact, statistically, their coil over suspension is on par with Tein's Euro Dampener (that starts at $2k).

good parts aren't cheap.

ok so the tail light thing doesnt sound to bad. as far as suspension goes until i get pretty good and have a decent budget im gona go with some bilstein HDs just to start out no need to go full bore on a coil over system to wrap the car around a tree the 1st time out. Besides gotta save my money for all the safety equipment.

RSI is not budget friendly either.
The cheapest route is to build it your self.
