Default re: oil pressure

I bought a 1990 Volvo 740 that was actually shipped from sweden. I have notice that when I first star the car the oil pressure is past the middle alittle bit and when I hit the gas it raises close to the 5. Is this normal. O ther then that I have bought a very nice car that a family actually gave to me I actually didn't buy it it was given to me cause my wife has cancer. Also I am looking for customizing parts thank you

Default RE: re: oil pressure

Welcome to the forum.

Bentley Publishers says the oil pressure should be between 2.5 bar (36 psi), at 2,000 rpm, and 6.0 bar (87 psi). That's a fairly wide range and it sounds like yours is normal. If concerned, you could have your mechanic check the oil pressure using a test gauge. The sender/gauge in the car is not very accurate.
