89 240 DL wagon- do the rear brake pistons unscrew to engage the pads or just push out straight?

They just go straight out.

You might want to consider a rebuild on this. The stuck piston is most likely the cause of the excessive wear on the one side (I am referring to your other post about Rusted Calipers).

Default brakes suck from Napa

Yes I'm in the final (bleeding) stage tonight. Under warranty I have now replaced all 4 calipers that I bought at NAPA about a year and a half ago. One piston on the rear I could push in with my hands, the other it moved, but with a clamp and lots of force! Both fronts were leaking, driver's rear-frozen. A year and a half on these parts! They are happy to give me replacements, even gave me a free set of pads for the rear, but I have to do all of the work. And I hate working with brake fluid just plain messy. Sure I'm in the salty northeast, but gimmee a break! (brake!) These rebuilds must just be crap I guess, Think if I have a failure a year and a half from now I'll ask for my bucks back. I always thought NAPA was better than average quality, but maybe not... Thanks for listening, Dave

Default Napa

NAPA branded parts are, on average ....average. However I have found the retail prices for average parts at NAPA can be far above average. I'd suggest you set up an account, at least you can get some kind of discount.

For example the lifetime pads.... Clearly no one expects any pads to last a lifetime, most people lose the paperwork, sell the car or just forget the pads are warranted, However if you're such a gear head you're hanging out on Volvo bb, you're not likely to fall into any of the above and NAPA will lose money on you.

Default brakes

Miami- thanks for the note- My main reason for the whole NAPA thing is that I drive right past one twice a day, and Carol knows me by name. I do hold onto my paperwork, so at least I dont have to drop $ on the parts. I just hate messing with changing calipers and bleeding lines. What kinda old stuff do you have, cause I've got a lot of old stuff too. Dave
