Removing headlights from a Volvo 740
Posting on behalf of a good friend who hit a deer a year or so ago. Very minor damage surprisingly, just the frame and signal lamp were smashed up but electrically everything is still working. Hoping to snag these at Pick-N-Pull next time I venture out there. I found several perfectly intact the last time I went, but couldn't figure out how to remove them and gave up. If I remember correctly, she has a 1987 or '88 740 GLE.

I've only done the one piece plastic kind, and those are on a plastic plate that's bolted to the panel behind them via 3-4 nuts from the back side. trying to seperate the headlight bucket itself from the plastic adjuster plate while its still in the car almost always breaks the little ball joints. its been a little while, but I'm remembering the headlight and turn signal coming off as a single assembly, then you detach the turnsignal part.
but the 4-square could be completely different, hard to say.

We think alike! I bought a Mercedes 190D a year ago that had a smashed headlight and the very first thing I did was order a Euro set, been wondering if there was a more attractive Euro version for her Volvo. What do they look like, other than probably waaaay nicer?

that looks like the late760, 960, and some 940 US version. (although the ecodes of that generation were similar). I don't think those will fit on the early style 740. I've been told its hard to change my late 740 single rectangle to those, that I'd need new trim pieces, new grill, new side lights, and the hood wouldn't quite line up right. on the US version at least, those fog lamps are plastic and very prone to turning hazy yellow. the main lamp was both high and low beam, the inside light is purely an ineffective fog lamp..

Those ecodes for the 740's up to '89 are pricey, like $300 and up....
The Fog Light version (four lights) won't fit a pre '89 740 and they are a major pain to adapt to later '90 and up 7/900. I like that loook, and they are glass except for the fogs but you gotta get them as they come, (Package III) or will need to change practically the whole front end.
