Removing a windshield
1989 244 GL.
Hi everyone,
I need to reseal the windsheild on my 1989 244 GL, and I have a question about removing it.
The seal has actually sagged to the point of open spaces around it which I've temporarily sealed with silicon. Its now time to remove the windshield, repair any rust and get the windshield sealed correctly. I'd also like to replace the '89 chrome surround seal with an updated all black one.
I took the '89 to a windshield repair place, and they couldn't guarantee not breaking the windshield during removal. In addition to not wanting to pay for a new windshield, I'd like keep the current one because my car has traveled a lot over its lifetime and registration/parking stickers have accumulated on the windshield (e.g. Virgin Island registration, military base parking stickers, etc.). It just is a cool reminder of where this car has been.
The repair place said if I can get it out in one piece, they'll put it back in with no issues.
I was hoping someone might have pulled a windshield before and can give me some tips on how to pull it successfully and safely in one piece.
Thanks!

removing an old windscreen without cracking it almost never works, especially with 30 year old dried hard sealant. and cleaning off ALL the old sealant after its removed is almost impossible.
best thing you can do is get the 1992/1993 240 windshield and throw your old one out. these new ones come pre-bonded with the black surround seal, thats not a separate part. take a photo of your stickers, hang it somewhere cool.
you'll be amazed at how much clearer and brighter your view through new glass will be.
