Question replacing the A/C controls on a 1993 940

I have a 1993 Volvo 940 turbo and one of the a/c control dials has broken. the one for the direction the blower pushes the air out. i have the replacement control box but i cannot figure out how to get the old one out of the dash.

would anyone be able to point me to a place with a video or detailed written instructions....basically for dummies?

TIA

Bel.

its been a long time and I no longer have any 7/9, but IIRC, remove that trim panel that goes from teh ignition key across to around the HVAC controls, using a plastic trim tool to carefully unsnap it. leave the switches and wires connected to this facia plate, just let it hang out of your way. once that facia trim plate is removed, you can unscrew the HVAC control and remove it. I don't remmeber if that one has a control bowden cable, if it does, you may have to remove the glove box to disconnect the other end of said bowden cable. I'm sorta remembering the 940 is all vacuum operated, all the vacuum hoses should go to a sort of spider thing that unplugs from the back of the HVAC control panel as a unit, so you don't need to individually disconnect them and keep them sorted out.

Yeah, unsnap the trim around it. Unscrew the unit. Then, either bend the metal fingers standing in the way (the fast way) of removal, or get the whole radio box out containing the HVAC controller and the radio. I bend the fingers, bend them back in the end, much faster.

I've tried bending the fingers out of the way and just can't find a way to get a grip on them to bend them. Certainly not in a way that's going to let me bend them back enough to close everything up.

I've gotten as far as pulling the radio out but can't get the case that holds the radio out so I can see any obvious way to remove the a.c. controls.

How would a service tech do it? Any idea?

Take the radio out. And the case that holds it, out. Sorry, gotta do that. Then you will see a double din box that holds all of those in. The box is attached with two torxes on the top inside, take them out, then the box. Obvious after that...

Thanks. Is there a trick to getting the radio encasement out? Trying to figure that out is driving me nuts.

probably help to first take out the ashtray and the cubbie/pocket above it that includes the cigar plug... to remove that you unsnap the bezel around the cigar outlet, and then remove two long screws that are exposed....
