Default Replacing driver side turn signal lens/assembly

The 1990 740 GLE we bought was missing the driver side front turn signal lens, though it was included in the craigslist photo. We bought a new turn signal assembly (we couldn't just buy the lens), and were going to install it, but it seems there's no way to detach the old assembly without getting some things pulled out of the engine compartment. Are we just missing something here? The passenger side seems relatively easy to access, but not the driver side.

Anyone had to do this before? Any tips? The gentleman we bought it off of could do it himself, but we're pretty handy usually and would rather save the drive and bill.

Cheers!

i had a 92 740 which had the headlights and stuff from the 940s w/o foglamps... IIRC, 1990 was a transition year, with some new and some old, and unique grills and fenders and stuff. I'm probably mixing various cars up (240, mercedes 300E) that I've done lights on, but I think those turn signals are attached to the headlight mounting plate, so you remove the whole thing then take the turn signal off the assembly. I *think* you snap off the trim plate thats under the headlight to access some of the mounting screws.

What I've got here (photos) seems to have a clip, and the whole turn signal would just pop right off if you could reach the clip from the inside of the engine bay, which we can't. There's just too much wiring and solid metal and such in the way.

Conversely we could just pop the lens off the new one we have and glue/snap it in place, but that could be a little janky.

is the airbox in the way? thats easy to remove. my 740 was a turbo, so the battery was on the left and the airbox was on the right.

The light has the clip, it just compresses and snaps in place. You should be able to stick your hand or a long screwdriver to get it unsnapped. To install, just snap it in. Both sides are identical as far as the clip function. No need to remove anything else.
