Default replacing entire ignition switch

I just acquired a 92 940 Turbo. The car was abandoned and the people who recovered it destroyed the ignition switch to disable the steering lock. I found a used one but cant get the old one out. Has anyone any experience with this?

?

It will probably have to be drilled out, carefully, depending on how much was damaged. There is another way to get it out, a pin holds the thing in but if destroyed, that's out, depends on the state of the damage. May be you can post a picture...

if you get the lock out and a new lock installed, I believe you can still buy lock cylinders from Volvo keyed to match the car, ordered by VIN. I've had cars with different keys and its a pain, its much nicer when the same keys fit doors, trunk, glovebox, and ignition.
