Default For Sale: 1979 242 GT

This car is in excellent shape! I have an independent inspection from Steve Linden (works with Jay Leno) as well as all records dating back to ~1988. I am the third owner. The original owner bought it new on July 10, 1979 and sold it in late 2012 to a collector who simply stored it (did not even register it in his name). I purchased it in Dec 2013 and have used it as a daily driver since.

Recent work has been new valves, rebuilt air conditioner, rebuilt audio system, new alternator, new driver's door handle.

small tears on both seats near upright button to move seats forward, otherwise it is like new on the inside. Outside has normal scratches and dings but is in otherwise impeccable shape. I have refinished Virgo wheels on it but it will come with the original GT wheels as well (both sets have practically brand new tires).

Please email me for price/questions: luke14.11@gmail.com
Sorry for the small pics, they could not be larger than 19.5kb...I have more I can send over email.

Steve

you left out a couple important details, like mileage and asking price.

yoou could post your pictures on a google picasa album, then link them here at any picasa supported size (800x600 or whatever) by using [img] tags...

Sorry, I was hoping to just have interested folks email about pricing. But either way what I am asking is $12000 OBO and current mileage is 160,663. This link should work to additional pictures as well.

Cheers

No engine pics?

Unfortunately, you can expect to get at most, half that price.
If you are serious on selling, post on ebay...as that will either sell high, or average.

indeed, while 160k is low mileage for a 1979, and that looks like a particularly well preserved 242GT, it is just a 4 cyl volvo, and the people who like them tend to be cheapskates.

indeed. lets see, $12000 will buy a low mileage nicely sorted out mid 90s Mercedes SL500 (R129), one of the nicest luxo roadsters ever made.

I know of a '80 242 GT barn find in northern Indiana that is for sale for under $1000. It hasn't run for something like 10-12 years but was running when put away. Body and interior in decent shape - some rust but nothing serious. It will end up going to the junkyard soon as the car needs to be removed due to an estate sale. If any one is interested you can PM me.

It does look like a nice car! The best way to sell this is ebay-- may be someone somewhere in the world grew up with one of these GT's, and now with some unassigned money in his pocket wants to recapture good memories of his youth... You never know, there a lot of people with money to burn in this world...

People who like Volvo's are cheapskates??? Really? Maybe? I certainly fit that description. Can we change that to value minded?
