Seat interchangeability

Seat interchangeability
Just took posession of a Canadian-market 1980 242GT. The big problem in the interior (other than the nasty passenger armrest...) is the driver's seat. In a word, it is shot. The seat bottom foam and the spring set have both degraded to the point where they will definitely need to be replaced. I also suspect that the seat back foam is soon to follow (although the lumbar still works!). I am balking at paying the kind of price IPD is charging for the foam sets, although the spring set is pretty reasonable.
My question is this: how easy would it be to fit seats from another Volvo or some other car?

RE: Seat interchangeability
Hi,
I know this is an old thread - but since I have the same problem & question - I want to resurrect it.
Bought a 89 245 DL wagon 2 weeks ago
The drivers seat is beyond repair! Foam is crumbling, vinyl is ripped and part of the frame is broke!
(other seats look reasonably good)
The Indianapolis area seems to suck for Volvos & spare parts (just moved here from Germany)
What other seats fit the 240 front? Maybe some from a 740 or 940?
I would rather go with something more comfy then an original 240 seat (more contours - not the bench like originals).
Thanks for all comments & help
