Default Shocks and Struts

I've owned my 1989 740 Wagon since new and have never replaced the shocks or struts. The car seems to ride ok and in Pennsylvania the state inspection process checks for leaks or other problems. Should i leave well enough alone? Is there any harm in keeping them forever? I suppose the ride would be improved but am i missing something? Thanks

Well if they leak or if you pushdown on the front or rearof the carto make it bounce up and down as soon as you stop it should stop as well. not continue bouncing. If you run with bad shocks you could ware out the tires a lot sooner and it also could be dangerous to drive with bad shocks because the tires do not respond to the road properly and lose control of the car.You can not hurt anything if you change them, only improve on ride and handling.Hope this helps.

hi there. i recently swapped my old suspension for new. shocks.springs and bushes .i could have got several more years from my old set up but the new one makes the car much tighter all round.some shock manufacturers recommend changing your shocks as early as every 30.000 miles. if i were in your position i would change the shocks, after all you seem to have got goodservice from the oldones so treat the old girl you wont regret it. bye.
