Default Sppedometer interchangeability

My original speedometer in my 1998 Turbo has gone bad. At first a small hit on top of dash would make it work again, now it works the first 5-10 mins of first trip then it needs a little rest of an hour or so - works 5 - 10 min again. Some component runs hot, i guess. I can buy a 1991 complete house with alle meters for a 1991 turbo ( first after 740-940 change ) for a fair price. Are they identical ?? Easy swap ?? The guy who owned the car said it worked just fine.

You go by the number of the face of the speedo (k9800, k1400, etc) You can also try www.car-part.com nationwide conglomeration of recyclers
