Default Springy noise from speedometer? and rear defrost issues.

I posted earlier but no one responded and it seems to be getting worse. When I hit certain speedy, a spring noise starts occuring. I was told by a friend that it could be my speedometer, either it's going out or there is a spring in it that is messed up. My car seems to still run fine, but when I go 20, 30, etc, any speed of 10 it makes this sound. Im afraid it could be worse than just being the speedometer, but it could be the speedometer because when I turn on the rear defrost, the speedometer stops working. Any ideas, Please and Thank you!!

Default RE: Springy noise from speedometer? and rear defrost issues.

I'm not a mechanic but I would try a couple of things to try track it down,
disconnect the speedo and see if the noise stops.
If the speedo is electroniclike mine it has a sensor at the rear axle.
Theres a plug connector near the rear axle.
Read the FAQ file on speedos.

I don't know about the rear defroster, its must be on the same circuit as the speedo, have you checked fuses etc? Some of the speedos ( a lot of em) have suspect gears in them and require aftmkt replacement gears, its just a small plastic gear. I bought aused speedo on ebay and swapped it out.

If you have a 940 wagon the wiring harness in the door hinge often fails.

My odometer made a scratchy noise. You could tell it was the odo because the noise occurred every time the trip meter moved. I took the cluster apart and found the little electric actuator that moves the odometer. I greased it and it fixed the problem. Hope this helps.
