Default Turning on Rear defrost blows headlight fuse

Hello all-

We just bought a 2000 V70 XC Cross Country AWD Wagon with a 2.4 Engine in it. I picked that car up in York, Penn. and drove it back to Michigan. Along the way I tried to turn on the Rear defrost while I had the headlights on and it blew the Headlight fuse (15A). I replaced the fuse and tried it again to be sure and it blew the fuse again. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions.

The SRS light stays on- Any input?

Also I notice that the car will "stutter" once inawhile, ususlly betweem 15 mph and 50 mph. Almost feels like dirty gas. Doesnt feel like the trans, I ran it up to high rpms and it shifted like a dream... Any thoughts?

Lastly- When I got the car on buttons 5 & 6 worked on the radio and the Insturment panel lit up. Now the Instrument panel lights are not working. Any ideas?
Thanks a lot for any help.

Regards,

Matt

One other thing to add- When you have the dial on the front defrost, the AC automatically kicks on. If you turn the dial one click to left or to right it will turn the A\C off. When you have the dial turned to defrost you cannot manually turn the AC off- you have to turn the dial.

Sure wish I had known about these things before I flew 600 miles and then drove 600 miles back home.

The defrost 'problem' is normal. This is from theowner's manual:

* When the function selector is in the defrost setting, the A/C will automatically be ON if recirculation is not on and the blower control is not in position 0.
The SRS light is telling you that there may be a problem with the Supplementary Restraint System (airbags etc.). This can only be checked by a Volvo dealer with the Volvo scan tool.

The rear defrost/headlights - I have not heard of that problem before.

Panel lights - have you inadvertently moved the thumb wheel which controls them?

Very strange that the rear defroster blows the fuse.
See if you can unplug the glass in the rear. If so unplug it and see if it still blows the fuse.
