the alternator pivots on some rubber bushings to tension the belt... when these bushings wear out, the alternator doesn't sit square to the belt, this causes squealing. IPD used to sell poly replacements for those bushings, but I couldn't find them last time I looked.
Determine which belt/s are making noise - I spray brake or carb cleaner on individuals belts - the slight wetness will momentarily change the noise, to figure out which ones are noisy - don't ever use anything that lubricates!
If alternator/ps or ac compressor alignment is off - replace the rubber mounting bushings. If you have the lower alternator mounting bolt out - notice how it's worn - people always leave the lock nut loose and the long bolt wears badly sometimes -
After that the best thing I have found to reduce noise - and not the safest - use a round file on the v edges of the belts - VERY CAREFULLY - while the engine is running - i think it roughs up the "glazing", the shiny parts of the belt that touches the v groove - try it (carefully) - it works
I'm talking about a 1/2 second burst on a belt - the stuff evaporates in a few seconds - and it's a lot easier to direct than a spray of water -
