I have a 92 940. My seat belt inertial real got stuck so I took it out to look at it. I cleaned it up and it works fine now but durring this process I unpluged it from the SRS system and then turned on the car to adjust the seat for better access. This trigered the SRS light and I cant figure out how to turn it off. I pluged the connector from the DLC into the B block and got an error code of 1-2-2. I tried pushing the button for more than 5 seconds but the led never came on and the SRS light remains. What am I doing wrong.

Thank you for the reply wojeepster. The light that I have on is the airbag light (SRS), not the check engine light. I know the code indicates a problem with the belt tentioner which is fine now I just want to clear the code. I tried the same method of clearing codes that would be used for the ignition or fuel system and it doesnt work. I had a problem like this a few years ago and I payed the dealer $70.00 labor for 2 minuites work so Im trying to avoid that. Thanks for any help.

 

If you have a B terminal and there is a wire in #5 slot then you can use that method to read and clear the code.

I posted a full how-to in there. However, there is no B5 terminal as there is only one box on the 940.

There is a test unit for the SRS system but it is located in the fuse box. Because of the possible danger of setting off the air bags I am very cautious about posting this information unless you feel that you are confident enough to do the job.

The main risk is accidentally triggering the airbags. Most of the tests stipulate no 12v. However, for the SRS light test you need to use a digital volt meter to read voltage.

These are taken from a manual so I hope that they are clear enough to read. I have had to reduce them to get them to fit.

Is there an ap that can clear the SRS code or do I have to but a better scanner? There are a number of aps and I've tried Torque Pro, Car Scanner Pro and a couple of free ones...

 

depends on what year/model your car is. OBD2 is available from MY 96 on, some prior years have the OBD1 jumper/led button set up which can be used (the jumper port selects which code sets etc). Details for the early years may be on the volvotips.com site.

you can read/clear SRS codes using a fully featured OBD2 code reader. Not all readers can do SRS codes so what I would do is check in with Autozone or similar and see if the rent (or loan) an ODB2 code reader that supports reading/clearing SRS codes. You can also see if a local indy shop will scan/clear for free (mine will). Last option is to buy your own code reader - probably run $100 for a unit that can do SRS codes.

 

This is the 240/740/940 forum, last of these cars was sold in the USA in 1995, pre-OBD2

on our 940s that have SRS, the code clears when you fix the cause, there's no 'memory'.

 

which module did you check to grab the codes? There's no 300 series codes for the SRS module from what I've seen. A 223 SRS code says there's a short in the passenger side airbag.

Try to reset the SRS first, may be it won't come back... Many times electric anomalies will set off lights that can be cleared successfully. BTW a 1990 740 doesn't have a passenger side airbag so a 223 code cannot be right.

 

I used the module under the hood. I will check the fuse for the srs to flash the correct code
