Default SRS light is on, what does it mean?

The SRS warning light is on in my 1990 740. Any suggestions on what it could be? thanks!

SRS is the supplemental restraint system - aka your air bags. You'd need to have a shop check for fault codes then look into the probem area. Could be a wiring issue (mice seem to love wire insulation), could be a component.

there are SRS codes but on cars up to 1992 or so they are not easy to read.

If you have a 93+ and have two diag blocks A and B under the hood, then its easy. if you have a 740/940 up to 1992, you have to mess with a jumper wire in the fuse panel behind the ashtray. if you have a 240 that has SRS and doesn't have the double diag block, then I have no idea how you do it.

volvotips.com has some repair manuals worth checking out. I mostly used the 850 stuff but it also has content for the red block crowd.

The SRS light may be on due to voltage too high or too low, but that will set off the ABS also. Try resetting the light before anything else- electrical gremlins may be the cause. https://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-9...icCodesPre1992
Most likely, from experience, it's the connectors, the one on the driver's side behind the right side panel, to the right of the gas pedal, is the most likely one to be disturbed. They are all orange so they are easy to see...

I tried to test the SRS system, but the light just comes back on and doesn’t flash like it should. Any ideas?

Then you have a fault in the system. A shop that specializes in electrics or Air bags should be able to help you.
