I put a brand new starter in because the engine used to do this before and then the starter stopped completely(only got click from solenoid). Does anyone think that the engine is partly seized or do I have an electrical gremlin? Have already inspected battery cables and the battery is good too.

 

I wouldn't think the engine is partly seized.

Apart from inspecting the battery leads did you clean the connections? Both battery terminals should receive treatment and the earth (ground) lead where it meets the body often goes bad and needs a good clean. Also check the ground strap from the engine/gearbox to the chassis. As a last resort put new leads on.

Have you had the battery tested or do you just think it is OK?

Try jumping a lead from the battery positive direct to the solenoid out terminal to see if the starter works from that. You could have bad wiring between the ignition switch and the solenoid.

 

The battery is less than 1 year old and I tested all the connections and cables and they all test OK. This problem comes and goes. Yesterday I couldn'y get it to start, today it started right away.
