Stereo Speaker Configuration Help
In the process of looking for new/better rear door panels I found a very nice set, but they do not have the passenger's speakers like the ones currently in my car that I am looking to replace. The donor car the door panels are coming out of does have the front door panel speakers and what I assume are added speakers on the rear parcel shelf. Looking those speakers up appears that they are out of a 940 and were an addition to the 240 along the way.
My question is, can I extend the wiring from what would connect to the rear door speakers to the speakers installed on the rear parcel shelf if I swap in the parcel shelf with the 940 speakers? Mind you I am not looking for anything other than listening to my local talk show on my hour commute to work.

if you're just listening to talk shows, front speakers only would be fine.
its not clear what car you're referring to? 240 and 940 are rather completely different bodies and interiors.
our 240 sedan only came with front door speaker mounts and wiring (dinky 4" speakers, at that), so I cut some 6.5" rounds into the rear deck, and wired them myself. the best place to run the wiring is along the passenger side of the transmission hump, under the carpet, this requires removing the passenger and rear seats so you can lift the carpet. i used high end component speakers with external crossovers for the rear deck, then put some quality coaxial mids in the front doors and it sounded quite good once they were properly equalized (had to use 'bass blocker' capacitors in series with the front door speakers so the big bass for the rear wouldn't overwhelm them at higher volumes)...

The car is a 240. The speakers in the donor rear parcel shelf, when I searched that model of speaker, came back to a 940, And if it matters, I am running the original head unit and would not even consider swapping it out. I just don't care for the looks of a modern stereo in a classic car like the 240.
Removing seats and carpet is easy. I do it regularly when I need to give the carpet a very thorough vacuuming.
On the 240s with speaker in the rear doors was this intended to be an upgrade?

yeah, rear door speakers was probably an upgrade option in whatever year taht was. our 240 was a 1987 240GL, which that year, gave you the front speaker mounts, leather seats, sunroof, cruise control, and alloy wheels. later years gained a few more 'features' I'm sure.
Volvo really wanted to kill off the 240 after the 740/760 came out, so a lot of 'features' were only available on the 740 and later 940 (which was really just a facelifted 740).

These are the speakers that are on the parcel/hat shelf of the donor car. Obviously they are OEM Volvo, but out of what car I don't know. Not that I need rear speakers on the shelf, but I was thinking that if I replace my rear passenger door panels with ones that don't have speakers then why not put/move/use the parcel shelf that already has speakers mounted there?
