The tailgate seal on my 1992 240 Wagon is shot. If i go on dirt/gravel roads the car fills with dust. Im Looking for a new seal, but cant seem to find any. Any Ideas?

Thanks Pierce! I've searched all the normal part sites I use (iPd and FCP Euro and Ebay) for them but couldn't find em.

 

Hey, think these would be a pain in the rear to replace? I was looking at the seal and it seems straight forward, but I feel as though it may be easier said than done.

 

I don't have a 240 wagon, just a sedan, I replaced the trunk seal on it a few years ago.... IIRC< I used 3M Weatherstripping Adhesive (aka 'gorilla snot") to glue it on

 

Hmm... for the Wagon, there's a grove it has to be shoved into. However, I'm not sure of a good technique for putting a new one in.

 

ah. on the sedan, there was a metal lip, and the groove was on the seal, that got pushed down onto this metal lip, by hand, rather easily

 

Perhaps they're similar? I can run take a picture of it...

The white arrow shows the rubber lip on the seal, the black one shows the outer part of the groove. I'd suppose that gap is the starting point.

 

Quite easy and straightforward. Pull the old one off, feed the new one on. I have done used ones, a brand new one may be tighter...

 

Good point, Lev. New ones may be more difficult. It's too bad there are virtually no junk yards around with older Volvos, so I'll most likely have to buy a new one.

 

yeah, what lev says. i'd pull the old one off and go around the body with a toothbrush or something to clean all the dirt out of the channel.

I find its easier to install weather stripping and other rubber stuff like that on a warm day. leave it out in the sun for an hour or two so the plastic gets nice and supple.

 

Alright. This will probably be something for me to do in the summer time. I'd love to have the ability of traveling on country roads without being suffocated by dust.

 

the junkyard seals would likely be as bad as yours, they are just as old.
