Default Tail light problem

We're have a tail light issue with my daughter's 1989 240 DL. When the brakes are applied, the light at the lower right on the right side tail light assembly comes on, but very dim. When we turn on the headlights and step on the brake, the same light goes out completely. I've replaced the bulb and checked the contacts. Everything seems to be ok.

These are relatively new tail light assemblies. I replaced the stockers with new units (from ebay) about a year ago. Worked fine until recently.

Any ideas?

This is usually an indication of a bad earth (ground).

Thanks. I'll check that. I haven't looked at the harness plug or the ground. Will do that right away!
