Default Tail light wiring for 1991 240, does not match diagram?

I've been trying for months now here and there to sort out the wiring for my tail lights (sedan). My question is: the 91 diagram I have shows 6 wires going into harness, but my harness has slots for 8 connections (the white tab you can open up)?? Does anyone know the correct order the wiring should be? The slots are actually numbered 1-8 on the harness that connects to the circuit boards on each side. I've been using trial and error but can't seem to get everything working at the same time (i.e.. blue goes into slot 3, green goes into slot 6, or what have you...).

if I remember tomorrow I'll try and pull up my 240 1991 greenbook and see what it shows.

I'd confirm the wires with a volt meter on the wires in back, and a friend to work the light controls up front, as the harnesses don't always match the diagrams, sometimes there were midyear wiring changes.

ditto, you can take a 12V power source (small battery?) and a jumper wire and verify which terminal turns on what bulb. not all bulb positions are used, for instance, the rear fog only lights the driver side.

oh great, the 1991 240 wiring diagrams don't show the pin numbers on the tail light connector. and there's seperate diagrams for parking lights, brake lights, backup lights, rear fog light, and turn signals. meh.

per these diagrams,

outboard upper bulb == turnsignal, left is blue-green, right is blue
middle lower bulb = parking light, left is red, right is brown-white
inboard upper bulb = brake, left is yellow-grey, right is yellow
middle upper bulb = reverse, left and right are black.
outer lower bulb = rear fog on left side only, left is violet

ground is also black. fun fun.

it shouldn't be too hard with a ohm meter to determine which bulb position is connected to what pin on the connector.

pierce, thanks much for the info! Should help clarify some issues.
If someone else reads this and has a 91 or newer that can maybe just look at what order their wires are in (on each side) I would much appreciate that as well.

This worked, all lights finally working! In case someone has the same wiring as mine, this is the order thanks to the cleanframetrap site:

Driver side:
Black Wire - Slot 1
Black - 2
None - 3
Blue/Green - 4
Yellow/White - 5
Red - 6
Purple - 7
None - 8

Passenger side:
White/Purple - 1
None - 2
White/Brown - 3
Yellow - 4
Blue - 5
None - 6
Black - 7
None - 8
