Time to change Bausch Alternator Brushes on 84 240
How long should it take an experienced mechanic to change the brushes in a Bausch alternator for a 1984 240?
Might it be 3 hours total for the Volvo shop to pull the alternator, swap the brushes, and re-install it?
I'm a novice. I watched videos online, and it appears most are straightforward. Remove 4-5 screws, pull off the cap, and pull out one small assembly w brushes, and replace. Thank you in advance.

You can replace the voltage regulator (that includes the brushes) in a few minutes. 2 screws that are easily gotten to. (with a stubby straighten edge screwdriver)
Or you can remove and replace the alternator - I used to charge 1 hour to R&R an alternator on those 240s. (takes about 20 minutes)

Thank you! The (very fair) shop owner is out. His lead mechanic said he couldn't find an alternator (odd), so he ordered new brushes. It could be the whole VR. If he charges me an hour or 1.5 hours (his rate is $200 an hour) for diagnosis, R & R, I'd be very happy. [Rates at the local Volvo dealer are insane.]
I've got 300K miles and delayed maintenence on the suspension. I need front ball joints, front sway bar links, and Strut mounts. (A few months back he tried to replace the Strut mounts, but two different mounts were the wrong size.) I see IPD has two versions in stock. I probably should also add in a new bushing for the horizontal bar (I can't think of its name). I'll provide said parts.
BTW, Dave Barton in Texas (new wire harness) and Voluparts in Atlanta have been very helpful. IPD should cut a deal with Barton and stock his wire harnesses - he has all the schematics and has them made in Europe. It would help keep more Bricks on the road. Thanks again.
