Default Tires for low yearly mileage car

1990 240DL sedan, 150k miles

Standard tire sizes 185 70 R14. I'm happy with this. BUT I only drive the car 6K miles per year. Looked at this forum and tire rack. The Yokohama and Pirelli each had mixed reviews. The Micheline Harmony stood out, but at a cost of $89 plus shipping it's an expensive choice.

And given my yearly mileage, the tires will dry rot before the tread wears out. This is exactly what happened to the Micheline that came new with the (used) car and now need replacement after 6 years.

What other recommendations would folks make for a less expensive tire that gets good (but not mixed) reviews??

thanks

Depends a lot on where you live. Here in Texas, after 2 summers, tires are iffy for road trips. My solution, except for my V8, is to buy inexpensive tires. Tire Rack (only place I use) has Sumitomo HTR T4's for your size for $52 each. It's a darn good tire, tread depth isn't quite as deep as some but a good tire. If you really want to broaden your tire selection, ditch those 14" steelies and get a set of 15's. 14's are rapidly going the way of the 13. In 15's, the Fuzion HRi in 205/60/15 is an awesome tire for $55...and a darn good snow tire in a pinch too!!

Default Tire sizes I can use

I'm in New England.

I was just looking at the standard size 185 70 R14, but now beginning to look at other sizes.

What other sizes will fit on the 14" rims? For example, will a 195/60-15 go on this rim, or others?

Uhhhh no. 195/60-15 is a 15 inch tire. Unless you get 15" wheels as suggested above u have to stick with wheel sizes the end in 14.

The fuzion hri is ok, I have had them on a 300zx.

Put your car info in on tirerack.com and see what they give you.

use the following link to see what different width tires will work without messing up the speedometer accuracy...14" tires are getting tough to find in any sort of selection though...

Hi Volvo fans
someone gave me 4 Michelin 215/70/R15's. I have a 1990 volvo 240dl sedan with th 15" crisscross alum rims...will these tires fit or will they rub...?

hankook 727s are pretty cheap and I had a set I liked.

Tires oxidize because there's an expensive preservative that they cheap out on when they "bake" a tire. A cheaper tire runs the risk of them using even less of that preservative.

Will you be driving in the snow on these?
