89' 240 automatic, on a transmission fluid change, do people usually drop the whole pan and change the tranny filter, gasket and all that. No drain plug, right? Only owned it since Sept, dont really know it's (transmission) history. Dave

 

Remove the drain plug it should drop about 3 quarts.

 

Thanks Tech! It looks like the tranny holds about 7 quarts or so, is there any way to get more of that old stuff out? Seems like a drain plug would drain as much as dropping the pan. Dave

 

If you wanted to get more out you could remove the return line from the radiator and start it up and drain some out then install 2 quarts and start again till it is all clean.
Use a clear hose and when you see bubbles coming out of the hose shut it off.
Usually about 2 quarts.
