Default tranny fluid change

I'm gonna be changing the transmission fluid today, and i just have a few questions.
1. the owner's manual specifies type G fluid, which evidently is no longer available, what's an appropriate substitute?
2. is the filter located inside the pan, as it is in my benz?
3. how difficult is it to turn the crank in order to access the torque converter plug?
4. can anyone recommend a good maintenence manual?

Thanks!

Dextron will be fine.
No drain on the torque converter.
The filter is under the pan.

What year is it?
