hey i have an '83 240 turbo and its an automatic and i want it to be a five speed. has anybody had really good luck with any tranny in particular? i heard toyota trannys match up pretty well. any suggestions?

other future mods...
sway bars - ipd
sport springs - ipd (or if you know some really good springs, let me know)
adjustable suspension - koni? bilstien?
exhaust - suggestions?
intercooler - suggestions?
blow off valve - suggestions?
turbo timer - ipd
boost controller - ipd

any other suggestions...i want my 240 to be fast.

 

This company make a kit to drop a Ford T5 tranny into a 240.

 

Why on earth would you consider a Ford tranny in a Volvo? You can get a used 4+OD, or later Volvo true 5 speed.

 

Sheesh........I wasn't endorsing it, I was just pointing out that it exists. But I believe that the particular T5 that VPD recommends can handle higher torque than the Volvo tranny.

 

I myself am driving with an M-47, had it installed to replace an AW71, quite a fine transmission. Appearantly the M-90 is this step up in terms of integrety and overall strength, if your willing to put in the fabrication time. I do believe that one might first cosider only Volvo stock for your Volvo, with exception of Getrag. So i've read on. One note for the M-47, if this is what you choose, overfill it with quality lubricant.
