1991 740 non turbo. I do not know how long ago, if ever, trans fluid and filter have been changed. Car has 316k on it, fluid is more of a brown color then red. Trans is shifting fine. Should I change fluid and filter???? or leave it alone and pray! Thec if you read this I hope you are sitting down----- I have learned from reading your post you are THE SCHEDULED MAINT MAN.

I'm not Thec, but I would change the tranny fluid using the coolant line from the rad. I would not touch the pan or the filter. Scheduled maintenance is 30k miles I think.

 

Thank you Blue Goose--- I was worried about dropping the pan. Book tells me dextron II, is it still available?

 

Use Dexron III is fine. Or Dexron/Mercon.
