Trans wont shift Cold
hey guys. i need help fixing my trans problem. The trans will not make that first shift from 1-2 when it is started cold. Even if i let it run to warm up for 15 min it would not shift right. The first shift is at about 35mph-45mph. engine screaming! After this first shift it runs perfect though.
I can start the car cold. Drive it until it shifts at about 40mph and then immeditally come to a stop and then start going again and the second time(engine still relatively cold and trans too) it will shift regularly at 15mpg for 1-2 and smoothly for the rest as well. It is just this first cold start shift.
I can even go to the store and when i come out and the engine/trans are still warm, then there is no problems. It will shift fine.
What do you think is the problem?
Any idea? ANY!

You should've continued this in your other thread, for continuity.
But anyway, There is a problem, although rare, involving these transmissions, sometimes it is delayed engagement of reverse and late shifts when cold. Volvo was aware of it, there was a service bulletin, I've read it online somewhere.
If the flush/new filter didn't help (and you SHOULD replace the filter), you should Google it. I forget exactly what the issue was, something about a check ball or similar in the valve body.
That's why I suggested a flush/filter as the first course of action, it eliminates the easy fix.
Regards, Andrew.
