Default Transmision oil cooler.

What would be the signs of the transmission oil cooler being clog. The tranny shop said that my cooler was clogged and I'm not sure about that.

Your tranny might run warm, especially in the summer. But it a relatively easy check. At your next oil change, disconnect the lines, and use your air compressor... if the other side wheezes, gurgles, or simply doesn't blow, then yes, it might be clogged. But if you use good oil, and frequently change it, i too would doubt it is clogged. Whats the problem with the tranny?

I took it in for a repair due to a leak on the tail bushing, but mainly for a leak that was creating a smoking engine. I realize now that the problem was a cracked transmission cooler line dripping oil onto the exhaust. I could have fixed this myself. I just couldn't find the leak.

Anyway the shop sold me on a rebuild. Told me I need a new torque converter, and my cooler was clogged. So they sold me a new tranny cooler. But they put in a cheap napa auto cooler and charged me like 3 to 4 times more then it was worth retail. I spent lots of money on the rebuild and feel a bit ripped off.

I didn't trust them and I ran water through the old cooler since its integrated with the radiator, and I got a really nice stream through the bottom orifice.

But the main point for the question, is that when I read the oil when its cold it gives me the same reading on dips 2-4 after the first pull, but when its hot, It tells me its full, overly full.

And it still leaks after two months on the repair. I need to take it back to the shop and have them fix it under warrenty.

Yes, it sounds like you got gypped. But as for the level, you need to be checking the tranny while its hot, engine running. Are you doing that? That is the most important
