Default transmission fluid in gas tank!!!

I'm getting different views from different people, I have an 89 240 Volvo Station Wagon. No problems until someone put transmission fluid (alot of transmission fluid) in my gas tank, I unwittingly drove it around, getting the stuff into the engine, I drove it this way for a few weeks. It would have a little trouble getting gas, and would stall, when I figured out the problem, I siphoned the tank, and got new filters, but a few weeks later it died. Some folks have said that the each engine part needs to be cleaned by hand, costing loads in manual labor and time, others say it needs a whole new engine, others say there should be no problem, others say the gas tank needs replacing, pistons, ect... ect... I haven't met or talked to anyone with this problem, so if you're out there, let me know. Cheers.

Exactly what kind of car is it?
If anything I would think it would be cleaned out really good.
You might need an O2 sensor.
It is turbo or non turbo?
Is there a check engine light on?

Thanks for writing back,

It's an 89 Volvo 240 Station Wagon.

What's an 02 sensor?

All the warning lights came on before it died.

As far as I know it's not turbo.

I hope to hear from ya soon.

Cheers

The O2 sensor is a sensor that senses unburned gases. Then it tells the computer to give the car less or more gas depending on the readings.

Ok so i guess it is not running at all at this time.
Does the engine still turn over or is it seized?

I would clean the fuel system from front to back very very well.
Then I would try to put in new gas and see if it runs.

You might want to replace the O2 sensor at the same time.
If it is bad it will make the car run very crappy.

Yeah, it's not running, there is no reaction when I turn the key in the ignition, nothing. How much are 02 sensors, and is it something I can easily do myself? When you say "fuel system" what does that entirely entail? Thank you for your help. I don't want to have to sell or junk the car if I don't have to. Cheers.

You said you get no reaction when you turn the key.
Try turning the engine over with a breaker bar and make sure it is not siezed.
