Our 940 wagon has recently developed a problem of not staying in park. When you park the car on any kind of slope and put it in park, the car starts to roll backwards and shifts a little out of park. Slamming the gear back into park always works, but its annoying and getting worse. Plus its a safety hazard.

Appreciate any help on what could be wrong.

 

Park is not supposed to hold car on hills, use supplied emergency brake. On the transmission a small pin fits in a hole for park, it is just that a small pin in a hole to prevent rotation. The hole that it fits in is worn. "Be kind to your ***, for it bears you" In other words be gentle with the machinery.

 

Could be the gear shift linkage out of adjustment or worn bushings.
