Trouble restarting
Hi
I have a 92 240 sedan. Have a problem that no one local seems to be able to figure out.
Helga (her name) starts great in the morning after sitting all night then when I turn it off and then restart it 9 out 10 times it doesn't want to restart unless I give it a bit of gas then it runs but then has a ticking noise (similar to having a card in your bike spokes). I have had the heads remachined and the distributor replaced.
Does anyone have any suggestions. I hate to drive her and do any damage.
Thanks
Chris

If it is hard to restart when the engine is warm it could be your fuel pressure regulator (FPR). It is located at the front of the fuel rail and has a small vacuum hose that runs to the manifold right by the throttle body. Make sure this hose is not leaking or off. Also, pull the hose off of the FPR and check for any fuel dripping from it or fuel smell coming from the hose. If you have fuel there then it's definitely bad. However, if there is no fuel smell it doesn't mean it is good. To check it further you really need to do a fuel pressure test.
