Default Turbo oil leak

Hey all. My turbo is in need of replacing, but I don't have the cash for a new turbo. It leaks oil very bad and it is all over the side of my block. I have heard that the engine that I have can run without a turbo, unlike some others. Supposedly there is a pipe kit that I can get (that I can't find) that makes it to where I can fill the gap for the air intake and exhaust. Can it be done that easily and is there a kit?

a worn out turbo leaks oil into the intake path, not externally, unless cracked wide open or something.

if its leaking oil on the outside, you probably just need new oil lines or fittings

I've never seen anyone selling a bypass kit, I think thats something you'd have to cobble up yourself. you'll need to cap off or loop the oil lines, the water lines, and bypass the air and exhaust. you'll end up with LESS power than a non-turbo car, as the turbo engine has its compression reduced to about 7:1 instead of the more typical 10:1

me, I'd be looking for a turbo from a junkyard. you should be able to use the turbo from any later 740/760 turbo or any 940 turbo. early 740/760 used a garrett, which is somewhat different and not bolt in.

Well, I do know that I have a Mitsubishi turbo and don't have $750 to cough up for it where I found it. It does leak oil in the intake and external on the engine block. My only concern of getting one from a junk yard is that it might not work properly. I have seen other turbos that say that they are compatible, granted they are one of those high performance turbos, for as much as $200. Weather or not they will make my engine explode or not have the right intake and exhaust fittings it what really worries me (mostly the engine exploding from too much pressure).
I have heard of a repair kit to repair the turbo, i.e bearings, seals, and others, for about $40 give or take. Would that also be a solution?

Yes, you can rebuild your own, the kit is for that. Actually it is probably less work to rebuild it than to bypass it. From a Junk Yard you can pull your own, see how it leaked, shaft play etc. That may run you less than $50 too.

whether or not the turbo is rebuildable depends entirely on what condition it is in side. if the fan blades are cracked or eroded, then its scrap metal, a rebuild kit won't help.

I have found a rebuild kit online for $56 and it may come with some replacement blades. It also has bearings, o-rings, different seals, ect. Here it is on ebay: Turbo Rebuild Repair Kit Volvo 740 940 960 TD04H 13c 49189 0100 | eBay and here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Turbo-Repair...387ea8&vxp=mtr
