yeah, I bought the yota, and the volvo will be for sale.

taco is a 2008 with 16000 total miles(!), was $18000. Its a 'Tacoma Access Cab 4x4 SR-5 TRD Off Road', bank says $22k easy.

here's the funny part.

Volvo (with back seats folded) - 70 cu ft cargo, 1200 lbs payload, 48" between wheel wells. 3500 lbs tow, ok on well graded dirt/gravel roads.

Tacoma access cab with shell - 90 cu ft cargo, 1500-1600 lbs payload, 44" between wheel wells(!) 6500 lbs tow. should be able to take most any 4x4 road I wanna try (not into rock crawling but do want to explore some of Death Valley).

I would have expected that big *** truck to have more capacity than that. ok, I'm ignoring the 20-ish Cu Ft in the back of the cab...

my existing telescopes barely fit in the volvo. add camping gear for a week and its a real crush, since my idea of camp at a big star party looks like...

(and yes, all that + telescopes really did fit in my volvo, barely).

minimal. working on a RGB (color adjustable) LED dome light for the camper cap.

installed KO2 tires already.

will do some sort of mild rear spring upgrade to better handle loads and tow.

may get a basic front skidplate just because death valley can be a cruel mistress.

do NOT want to load this thing down with 900 lbs of boltons like expedition racks then find out it can't carry any more.

btw, I was wrong up there on the specs. A Tacoma 4x4 Access Cab TRD Offroad has a stock playload of.... 1200 lbs, exactly the same as the 740 :-O

YOu should be fine with whatever bolt ons your want. Some of the guys in the toyota pages have the arb bumpers front and rear with a winch and still take them out wheeling with out any problem. I believe there are tacoma specific forums as well. All those guys can tell you exactly what you will need.

yeah, I know people accessorize the heck out of these things but they then discover all that stuff weighs a half ton, which makes the vehicle LESS nimble on the rough stuff.

and yeah, I'm already on tacomaworld

this thread was a sort of indirect way of saying I may soon be volvo-less, and once thats occurred, I'll be far less likely to be hanging out around here

That would be a shame(for us). You've been the most helpful and had the best attitude of anyone on this forum. Thanks for all your help!

NNOOOOOOOOOOOO! what are we going to do without one of our most helpfull members? you always have instant documentation to post just when we need it the most! Pierce, think of all of the the volvo newbies with new to them 740's with Regina fuel systems and without a clue?
You at least must train a replacement!

You've been a valuable ally to all of us Volvo-buffs, thank you for what you have given us, sometimes you just gotta move on.

Funny I got my 240 when my '98 Tacoma got squashed. Toyota makes a great small truck, I'm sure you will be happy with it.

As others have said your Volvo knowledge will be missed.
