Default up shift arrow always on.

I didn't even know that my car had a "shift-up" arrow (88 245 manual). I did not see it for the last year while I've had the car. Suddenly, after starting the car this morning the "shift-up" arrow lit up and stayed on for the hour that I was driving it (even when the car was in neutral). I wouldn't mind just disconnecting the light because I find it annoying when the computer is telling me what to do.

Anyone know why the light would be on? Is there a potential problem?

Anyone know how to shut the light off permanently (unless I need the light to tell me that something is not working).

Thanks.

You're talking the red arrow that points up right? Your car came from the factory w/ the M47 5 speed and the annoying upshift light whenever you get to a certain rpm. If it has begun working again, maybe someone disabled in the past and it started making contact again somehow. I'd pull the cluster and remove the bulb if it were mine. It serves no useful purpose and won't harm a thing.

Seriously the most annoying thing ever.

What's weird is that it is on ALWAYS. It hasn't turned off since it turned back on.

Come to think of it, the light is "programmable"... You have to drive keeping the car in each forward gear for 10 seconds, and then it is supposed to start working properly again, as far as I remember...

My light start acting screwy once in my 86 240, and I disconnected and reconnected the battery and that got it back on track.

Did that shut the light off, or does it work like it should and tell you when to shift? I'd rather have it on all the time, like mine is doing right now, than have it telling me when to shift and distracting me constantly.

But thanks for the tip.

Come to think of it, I disconnected the battery while putting the new stereo in, and I think that the first time that I noticed it was right after I hooked that battery back up! Now I'm wondering how someone/something disabled that dumb light and how disconnecting the battery brought the light back.
