Default Update on Volvo the short from h#ll!

Hi all

So my stepsisters 240 wont start unless jumped and with the car off the battery light is on. We made sure the battery was good and conenctions clean. Replaced the Ign. Amp., ign. switch, and pulled the cluster incase the short was in it. It still only starts with a battery charger set to engine start. It then runs fine for awhile with the lights on and blower mower on full. After a few minutes it stars to stuggle and when the brake pedal is pessed seveal times the car will then die. Any ideas about what circut to check for a short? The visable problems are with the instruments (the battery light on with the car off and the key out and the spedo peging around 75 and the odometer ticking off miles when you try to start the car)

Many thanks

Phil

It sounds like your short is in the wireing harness. Check the harness from the Alternator back to the battery and look for frayed wires that might be touching the chaisis somewhere.

Sounds like a bad alternator or voltage regulator to me. Places like advance auto do free diagnostics on the charging system, give that a shot.

We replaced the alternator last sunday before this started. At the time the only odd thing was the battery light on with the car off. Then we replaced the bad alternator and the battery light was still on when the car was off. So its somthing else. Ill keep everyone updated.

Many thanks
Phil
