Take the wheel off and check the threads on the studs and nuts. Replace if stripped. Also, try using a torque wrench to tighten, that way you know that they are tight enough, but not overly so. I can't remember the spec, but it might be in the owner's manual.

On the 940 the torque value is 62 or 65 ft. lbs. I am sure that it is the same with the 740 as well as the 240. It is listed on the wheel bearing dust caps.

Make sure the nuts are on with the flat side out. The conical side goes towards the rim. If installed backwards, the wheel will wobble and work the nuts loose

Well I made it! Sweating through my shirt the whole way. Had to re tighten once I started to feel it.

No, there not striped. They tighten down pretty good. The aftermarket rims are aluminum and I noticed the lugs dug holes into them maybe 1/8" 1/4" or so.

Yes I made sure. I could have easily made that mistake though.

Man I gotta drive this thing again today SHEEESH! :/

Could it be that the holes in the rim have worn out of round along with the lug nuts? One way to test this is to swap the rim & nuts to the other side. If the problem follows it, then replace the rim and nuts.

Are your rims stock, or are they aftermarket or from another Volvo?

I'd change the hub/nuts. Start over with something new or from salvage yard. I've heard of loose nuts causing damage to the bearing, so I'd check that bearing you just replaced. Just a thought

Go buy a new set of lugs made for aluminum wheels. Also check the center hole to make sure it fits correctly. If the wheel is not flat on the hub or if the center hole is to big then the wheel will come loose.

I don't think he was suggesting buying "aluminum lug nuts". Just lug nuts that are meant for aluminum rims.

2 cents.

Go to someplace like autozone and bring one of your lug nuts with you. Tell the sales person you want a set of lug nuts with either a conical or round seat. They usually come in sets of 5. Also as I mentioned check the rim to make sure it fits on the hub and there is no slop. Volvo wheels are hub centric and should have a fairly tight fit on the center of the hub.
All lugs are usually made of steel.
