Use an '89 fuel pressure regulator on my '88 240?
Hello,
I'm having multiple starting problems with my '88 Volvo 240 and I was wondering if someone might be able to help me out by answering a question or two about the fuel pressure regulator which seems to be specific to the 1988 model year? Mine leaks gas from the vacuum line so I guess it needs replaced.
I have several problems with the car. It's been sitting for quite a while and I don't want to sink a lot of money into it prematurely.
I've found very inexpensive fuel pressure regulators on ebay for the '89 (and up) model years, only $13.00. My my year ('88) ranges anywhere from $65.00 to $165.00.
From the pictures it's obvious that the parts are physically interchangeable, but from what I've found through searching is that the '89 regulator must have a higher pressure (44 psi or 3 bar?)
My two questions are these:
1.) (most important to me) Can I use the 1989 pressure regulator in my '88 Volvo 240 without causing damage?
2.) What is the operating pressure of my '88 fuel injection system?
My question is the exact opposite of the one asked on the forum which can be found here:
Fuel Pressure Regulator 240 -- Will 88 work on 89?

Thank you in advance for any replies. I greatly appreciate it.
Regards,
Tim

I've ordered a regulator. Still hasn't come yet.
Thanks again.
