Value of 1982 240 DL
Hello all, first post here from a former owner of a 1984 240 DL and a 1973 164e.
I'm going later today to look at a 1982 240 DL, and wanting to get an idea of its value, since it is too old for KBB to list.
It is an automatic+turbo and was apparently one of those "Sunday drivers." It has only 109,000 miles and apparently everything is in good working order, with maintenance records going all the way back to 1982. I've seen pics and the only body damage is some "keying" on the driver's side door.
The seller is asking $1,500 for it. Is this in line with the actual value of the car? I've looked around for other classified listings, and not finding anything that really matches the year and condition of this 240.

For a car of that age book values are pointless anyway. A person has to make their own valuation based on what it means to them-kind of personal quest... If you LOVE '82 Volvos obviously it is worth a lot, certainly $1500-where else do you get it? If you just want a beater driver, then anything will do and there are many other choices for $1500.
FYI here's a steal of a deal if it's what is says (But they seldom are) >$800 (or a bike) for an '82 240DLw/ 75K original miles

Well, it took me a couple of weeks to actually get together with the seller, see it and take it for a spin. The seller lives an hour from me, so it took a while to coordinate.
It really is in great shape, inside and out. It has been maintained meticulously, and basically drives like brand new. The most impressive part was looking under the hood; it is the cleanest looking I have ever seen a used car under the hood.
After some deliberation and discussion, I'm buying it tomorrow for $1,350. It's going to be my everyday driver for a while. I drive about 20 miles a day going back and forth to work and other small trips, and I think it will do me well.
I'm looking forward to re-joining the Volvo club! I've never been great about taking care of my cars, but I'm looking at this one as a challenge. Can a 27-year-old Volvo with 109,000 miles be driven to the Million Mile Club?

In my experience, the value of this model is very subjective. I live in Portland Oregon, and bought mine last year when I lived in Eugene, Oregon -- the 80-something 240 is so beloved around here, they tend to be pricey.
BUT, I happened upon one right when a guy really needed to get rid of it, and he took a shine to my Dad & Grampa who came to check it out with me.
It's a 1982 240(244) DL Sedan, it had 150K on it, zero rust, working sunroof, power locks and windows (working), all electrical in good shape. Just needed an alignment badly, had a dented front grill that made it hard to open the hood, and some missing trim, and a little dash damage. I got it for $600.
