Value confusion on an '89 240
I am currently considering selling my 1989 Volvo 240 that is in great condition, well maintained and recently got a full tune up. I also installed brand new radio. It still has just under 184,000 miles. My step dad is convinced that I would get $2500 for it. Is that a realistic estimate?

Yeah - depending on the area you live, how good of condition the car is (inside & out) and how long you want to wait for it to sell. I keep an eye on craigslist in the chicago area and good condition models seem to sell within a few days when listed at $2000 or less. Ten years ago you could get them cheaper but as fewer are on the market, the price has gone up. You could list it at $2500 but be willing to take less.

I got mine on craigslist in Austin for $500
on the flip side I have sold them in great shape for $2600 in the same location
I have purchased 3 240's
1992 240 sedan 800 (bad transmission that turned out to be good)
1991 240 wagon 500
1993 940 wagon 1450
sold
1993 940T wagon 1800
1995 960 2600
1989 240 wagon 2200
All in Austin Texas which is super hipster, and above average prices for cars in the Texas location

hah, my hipster daughter STILL pines after 'her' 240.
this is her 3 years ago leaving for college.
the car took her to portland, then arcata, ca where she is now. it came back last fall with electrical problems due to water getting behind the dash, and it needs a full front brake job, and it needs front suspension lower control arm bushings. its used up.
