I have a 92 Volvo 245 that has a silver valve cover. Someone told me that they are typically black....So when I had the head rebuilt and went to put the cover back on I realized that it could be the incorrect cover. The cover wobbles on the front and back cam caps, unable to make contact on both the sides.
Is there a different cover for the b230 than other similar models?
Or should I just tighten it down to make up the 1/4" gap?
Or should I make thicker side gaskets?
Any help is appreciated, !
The caps look tight, I'll check them tonight. I did check the valve clearances and they were correct and figured the caps were down tight. I did change cams from an M type to a B type and the machine shop installed it with no issues. that shouldn't be the problem. I did notice that the gasket I received was too large also. Even after carefully forming it around the cam caps. I had a clearly too much gasket over the cam caps.
The caps were torqued down properly @ 15 ft. Lbs. The valve cover is probably just warped. I checked again last night and it is closer to an 1/8" gap than a 1/4". I did however find to hairline cracks in the # 1 cap. I may need a new thread for this problem.
Stress cracks on cap Valve cover
That's what I was thinking. I'll make that cover leakless somehow. Permatex gasket or doubling up on all sides accept the lobes, which would get a single layer.
